A few years ago, Nasa sent a group of six astronauts to Mars as part of a simulated crewed mission. They were never seen alive again. Two-hundred people from the US, Russia, China and even France have been launched to search for the missing volunteers. In spite of all this interest, there is no sign of our comrades up until now. With the anniversary of this ill-fated mission approaching, Alden Landis (Milo Ventimiglia), the son of one of the astronauts, becomes worried that NASA has decided to suspend the search. A group of specialists led by veteran astronaut Beth Johansen (Katee Sackhoff) is preparing for re-entry on board the shuttle. As they head towards Earth, they detect a distress signal coming from their missing comrades. They find out that their colleagues are still alive and now face an imminent threat .....

Director's cut with 3050 minutes of extra footage
In April 2007, Mill Creek Entertainment acquired the U. S distribution rights to the film and released a two-disc special edition DVD on October 15, 2007. The first disc includes the movie as well as bonus features such as: The second disc contains an edit of the movie called "The Director's Cut" which includes more footage and longer scenes than the theatrical version. This version of the film was also screened at Fantasia Festival 2007 in Montreal, having a running time of 81 minutes.
